Description
18" (46 cm.) l. x 7"h. The wooden sewing case of finest woods is decorated on both the exterior and interior with 14 different oil-painted scenes of Austria such as Lake Traun with the Traunstein Mountains in the distance, several scenes depicting the historic Castle Orth, and most of the scenes featuring persons in various boating, hiking, fishing, or contemplative moods. Each of the paintings is edged with pressed gilt paper or metal, and there are four ball-shaped metal feet, fancy bail handles at each side,and carved bone knobs on each of the eight interior compartment lids. Superbly-preserved and artistically rendered, likely of a special commission. Viennese, early 1800s.
