Description
7" (18 cm.) Redware pottery shoulder head doll with sculpted head shawl, defined facial features and bodice, glazed finish with unpainted features, cloth body, early costume. Condition: generally excellent, costume frail. Marks: R.M. (front shoulderplate) 1811 (back shoulderplate). Comments: Pennsylvania, early 1800s, various toys, dolls and penny banks were created by workers from end-of-date remaining redware clay. Value Points: very rare to find early American doll.
