22" (56 cm.) Solid domed plump bisque socket head, brushstroked hair with nearly bald front crown centered by a deeply-modeled forelock curl, side curls above the ears, brown glass sleep and side-glancing googly eyes, painted curly lashes, short feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with wide beaming smile, composition and wooden ball-jointed toddler body with side-hip jointing, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 172 -12. Comments: Hertel and Schwab, circa 1918, from a series commissioned by the American import house of Strobel & Wilkins, marketed under the trade name "Jubilee Googly". Value Points: very rare grand size of the sought-after googly, whose captivating expression is rivaled by very choice bisque and painting.
