Description
16" (41 cm.) Carved wooden socket head depicting a widely smiling young boy, very narrow intaglio blue eyes with large black pupils, defined eye sockets, tinted brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with beaming smile and dimples, row of painted teeth, brunette mohair bobbed wig, all-wooden spring-jointed body with holes in feet for positioning. Condition: very good, original finish well-preserved except rub on nose, wig appropriate but not original. Marks: Schoenhut Doll Pat. Jan 17, ‘11 USA & Foreign Countries. Comments: Schoenhut, 1911, a Graziano model that, according to Carol Corson's Schoenhut Dolls was "made for only six months at most." The actual doll is photographed in the Corson book, page 40. Value Points: very rare early Schoenhut boy with compelling expression, original finish, wearing original Schoenhut shoes and socks, costume may be original.
