Description
14" (36 cm.) Carved wooden head and torso with sculpted hair
captured under an attached coiffe,painted facial features,defined
eye sockets,brown eyes,closed mouth,padded upper arms,wooden lower
left arm,bottom half of doll enclosed within stiffened linen frame
and presented on attached velvet base. Condition: missing right
hand,thumb chipped on left hand. Comments: 18th century or
earlier,the doll depicts elaborately-costumed royalty. Value
Points: outstanding original costume,featuring embroidered beading
on the satin skirt which rests upon the hooped underskirt,superb
detail of bodice and sleeves,and very ornate "jeweled" crown,pearl
necklace,orb. Ex-Collection Margaret Woodbury Strong.
