Description
14" (36 cm.) Earthenware head with sculpted and painted facial features, sculpted army helmet labeled "Teddy", painted brown down-glancing eyes, long lashes, thick brushstroked brows, closed mouth modeled as though in a beaming smile, modeled tongue, cloth body, stitch-jointed shoulders, disc-jointed hips, earthenware hands with "thumbs up" pose. Condition: generally excellent, uniform darkened. Comments: French, circa 1917, the background of the doll is uncertain, the helmet suggesting a connection to Teddy Roosevelt who aggressively pushed for America to enter the war; the doll is wearing original khaki uniform with two attached symbols (rooster and map of France).
