Description
14" (36 cm.) A fine chip-carved figure of a standing man, posed casually with hands in
pocket, mouth carved in a puckering fashion as though whistling, carved details of suit and derby
hat,has a swivel head. The torso is hollow, and a door at the back allows access to the internal
bellows and mechanical works which, when keywound and string-pulled,cause the man to turn
his head side to side in an insouciant manner, while a whistling tune is heard. Excellent condition
of carving and mechanical functions. Germany, early 20th century,a rarely found and imaginative
musical and mechanical object.
