7" (18 cm). Sculpted porcelain-clay doll portraying a smiling young girl has shoulderhead, softly-stuffed peach muslin torso, upper arms and legs, and porcelain-clay arms and legs, exquisitely painted facial features, blonde mohair wig fitted into recessed cut in scalp, painted green socks and black patent leather shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Martha D. Thompson (red stamp on torso). Comments: American artist, Martha Thompson, character NIADA member, who created her works for about only 15 years during the mid-20th century; she died in 1964. Value Points: extremely rare early doll by the noted American doll maker with unusual recessed scalp, superb detail and painting, original artist made dress with smocked bodice.
