48"w. x 19"h. x 18"d. The two-room dollhouse features a large salon and a bedroom. Gilded columns frame the front with a unique applique of box-potted plant at the base of each. There are three pairs of double-hinged windows that open inward,and a very wide interior paneled door surmounted by a garland design. The walls have original hand-painted paper and the floors are original lithographed paper in parquet or geometric designs. There are doorbells. Salon and Furnishings: The hand-painted blue wallpaper features panels with urns and flowers. Two shallow steps lead to a set-back garden room with railing,lit by a colored- lead floor-to-ceiling window and a hanging blue and white beaded glass chandelier. There is a beaded carpet,faience parlor stove,faience pedestal with flowers,pair of gilt-framed lithographs stamped Bernenes Bazar,Fredericksbarggade 21,KJ Benhavn,K.,and other wall pieces,gilt-decorated wooden Art Nouveau furnishings,bent-wire French garden room furnishings,lithographed tin baby carriage,and a superb four-arm chandelier with elaborate beading and crystals that matches the bedroom chandelier. A superb wedding couple of tragant is posed in the center of the salon table Dolls: there are three bisque dollhouse people including a moustachioed groom in formal wear and top hat,bride,and other lady,and four small bisque children. Circa 1900,the rooms are known as "Madrid at the Turn of the Century" and feature rare chandeliers,furnishings and tragant figure,enhanced by hand- painted wall-paper. A wooden-framed miniature room with dark stained interior and exterior walls has decorative half-columns at each side,painted diamond-pattern floor to simulate tiles,and two large framed windows at the back with possibly-original green silk and lace curtains on brass rod. The room is richly furnished,significantly with an early sofa with matching arm chair and three side chairs,each upholstered in original green quilted silk,edged with gold beaded paper,the sofa and arm chair with yellow paper backing to simulate leather. Also: early corner curio cabinet with mirrored back,green paper on shelves,and gold beaded trim; wall curio cabinet with ebony front columns and mirrored back; two-drawer chest with bone handles; detachable bookcase with row of faux-books; small table with green paper on bottom shelf and mirrored back; and ormolu round table. Accessories include heavy brass candelabra,two bone planters,porcelain plant stand with plant,two porcelain urns with plants,needlepoint carpet,miniature dance card,two porcelain dogs,clock in glass dome,3 porcelain figures,8 lithographs or engravings depicting various historical scenes and others. Of further note is a relief-gilded profile of Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria (1848- 1916),along with a walnut framed screen with engravings of Viennese scenes and engravings of Emperor Franz Joseph as both young and older man. Also included are three porcelain dolls in antique costumes. Excellent condition. Circa 1855,with original furnishings,accessories,and dolls of the era,and intriguing Viennese historical objects including images of the Austrian Emperor,and an 1880 miniature Viennese calendar.

A grand wooden doll house with two large rooms features original wood-grained finish on the exterior,and alcove at the back of the salon with large stained glass window with elaborately painted design. The double doors leading to the outside have upper-windows,and the double doors between the two rooms are richly paneled,each is made of tinplate with faux-wood-grained finish; the tall windows in each room are also tin-framed and hinge open inwardly. Each window has original wooden cornice and antique curtains. The salon floor is lithographed paper over wood,and the bedroom floor is wood. The bedroom has original floral-printed wall paper,and the salon walls are uniquely and originally covered with applique panels over wall paper on the upper portion,and a superb pressed-cardboard wainscoting to simulate carved wood; finally,a gilded pressed-cardboard border edges the ceiling line and the wainscoting. Attached to the side of the house is a lithographed tin gazebo in shades of turquoise,red and gold,with painted tin floor to simulate a summer carpet. The gazebo has fret-work sides,fleur-de-lis roof line,and contains four potted tall plants. Excellent condition. Germany,circa 1880,the very rare house was commissioned by Maerklin and fitted with its tinplate doors,windows,and gazebo. Other rarity factors include stained glass window in alcove,original cornices,and pressed-cardboard wainscoting.

Two wooden-framed doll rooms with decorative half-columns at the front and all-around cornice molding have dove-tailed construction and original exterior paper to simulate wood-grain. There are four large three-paned windows with hinged bottom panes,and a well-paneled double door that opens between the two rooms; there are bone knob handles at the windows and door. Each window has its original rare gilded-metal drapery valences with elaborate filigree design. The floors have original matching paper lithographed in parquet design. The smaller room has daisy-pattern wallpaper that matches the daisy design in one of the three lithographs hanging on the wall. The salon is wallpapered in a rich textured paper with complementary ceiling border; its cranberry color and the color of the lined silk draperies are what give the house its name,"The Cranberry Room". The room retains some furnishings and accessories,viz. an ormolu six-arm chandelier (two missing milk glass shades) with original bracket; silk carpet with metallic trim; superb early carved fireplace (unattached) with brass lining,fender,grate and lionÞs head coal hod; Italianate carved wooden mantel mirror with gold leaf finish; two tall ormolu candle sticks; fine porcelain statuary marked G.M.; and a very fine English oak roll-top desk with carved details. Germany,circa 1880. Excellent condition of the early beautiful room with rare details of bone handles and gilded metal drapery valences.

A fine wooden two-story doll house has a painted exterior to simulate stonework on the lower floor and front center facade,and brick work on the second floor. There is a detachable viewing tower with steeple roof that is painted brown as are the front porch pillars and window frames and trim. The tower rests upon a foundation of alcoves that are set-out from the two lower floors. The roof is painted a very dark blue as are the porch rooms and base,and the center facade has an unusual arched crest with "carved" detail. There is a bay window at the side. The house opens at the center with two wide swinging panels,and the attic space is accessed by removal of the tower. The interior offers four rooms with a center foyer and staircase; the tower set-outs offer additional space as small seating alcoves when the front is opened. Doors open into each room,and the windows are fitted with curtains which are old and perhaps original. The walls have original paint,and the floors are particularly fine with lithographed paper parquet designs,including a unique circular parquet in the living room which is repeated in a tiny scale on the alcove floor. Excellent condition,the steeple roof may be replaced,and there may be some overpaint to roof and base,but otherwise original. Germany,Moritz Gottschalk,early-20th century. A signed variation of this model is on exhibit at AngelÞs Attic Museum in California,and is shown in Ackerman's The Genius of Moritz Gottshalk

The interior comprises two rooms,each with an arched window having six wooden panes,wooden sill,curtains and filigree gilt metal cornices. There is parquet paper lithographed flooring in each room and early wallpaper in both rooms. The larger room is furnished as the salon of an affluent family with a matched set of carved Black Forest-style furnishings from the German firm of Harrass in Bohlen. The set comprises of a rare easel with original lithograph in matching frame,round pedestal table,sofa,two rocking chairs and two straight chairs,each with original red velvet upholstery,dessert buffet with oval mirrored front,hall mirror,and plant stand with potted plants. There are four framed porcelains,a beaded carpet,various milk glass and porcelain dishes and vases,and a six-arm hanging metal candelabra. The smaller room has a small bed by Barrass,matching mirrored front wooden armoire and marble top dresser,dressing table with mirror. two beaded carpets,tin doll carriage,three wooden flower pots,various framed prints,and a fine green glass hanging lamp with gilded soft metal frame. Excellent,some paper spotting in bedroom. Germany,circa 1890. The rare set of Barrass furnishings matches the larger set,#170 this book,and has the identical impressed Barrass signature design on the upholstery.

58"w. x 18"h. x 15"d. The grand wooden two-room arrangement with ochre-painted exterior walls and decorative front pilasters has two rooms in addition to a stepped sun room and bathroom. There is a wide center back window with 4 small panes above 4 tall narrow panes; flanked by 2 three-pane windows. The door between the rooms and the bathroom door is cream-painted with gold striping,and each has Gottschalk silver knob. The wide salon features an extended sun room alcove at the back with step risers flanked by columns and framed by an elaborate fretwork and balustrade. There are embroidered silk curtains,old wallpaper and original parquet lithographed paper floor,and hanging ceiling lamp. The bedroom has old wall paper and border,original parquet lithographed paper floor,side window with curtain,and a little bathroom closet at the back in which is a toilet. The house is pencil numbered 5444 on the underside. Furnishings: original luxury-grade Gottschalk furniture is in both rooms,all with faux-mahogany finish,gold striping,some with applique metal trim,and the upholstered pieces with pale green silk. The furnishings were all shown in the 1906 Moritz Gottschalk catalog (see Cieslik's Moritz Gottschalk,1892-1941,page 89) and comprise: sofa with grand surround (model 3886),desk (model 3888),hall mirror (model 3889),table (model 3890),four straight chairs (two with arms) (models 3891,3893),pedestal (3895),framed print (3897),as well as two beds,faux-marble top dresser and two nightstands (model 3998 ensemble),and two curved low-back chairs.Excellent condition. The wooden framed doll rooms have original cream exterior paint with gold stencilling on the front pilasters,and feature two rooms each with original wallpapers and paper lithographed parquet floors. The salon features a set-back alcove with a one-step riser,and is framed by a decorative cornice and side panels with built- in flower boxes. At the center of the alcove are 3 ten-pane windows with an unusual small opening window in the center section. The bedroom has a large multi-paned window arrangement on the side wall with centered small opening window. Each room has original silk curtains and painted wooden cornices. A paneled and painted door between the two rooms has classic Gottschalk silk knob. The salon is furnished with Gottschalk silk- upholstered sofa with elaborate surround in mahogany finish with gold stenciling,with 2 matching chairs. There is a white wooden grand piano (maker uncertain) and two Gottschalk white wooden rocking chairs. The bedroom furniture is a pair of luxury Gottschalk twin beds framed by a grand surround with inset fabric panels that are printed to appear as though tufted and a pair of night stands are attached to the surround wall. There are two matching dressers,one with cheval mirror. The house is pencil inscribed "4836" on the underside,and the bedroom set appeared in the Gottschalk catalog of 1908 as model "4266" (shown in CieslikÞs Moritz Gottschalk 1892-1931,on page 120. A grand faux-paint-grained double door with paneling and cornice leads from one room to the other. There is old wallpaper with decorative borders in each room,and the paper lithographed original floors are designed to simulate carpeting. Each room has rear and side windows with original cornices in faux wood grain finish. The Green Beaded Curtain Room has outstanding wood paneled wainscoting and chair rail with faux-paint-graining to match the doors and cornices and is furnished with a green glass chandelier by Gerlach,and red velvet late Victorian sofa and chairs surround a well-laden wooden table; there is a wooden dessert buffet,wooden clock,velvet-framed portraits,velvet stool,other prints,vases,flowers and more. The Blue Beaded Curtain Room is highlighted by a splendid ormolu-framed chandelier with blue and crystal glass beads,and has a beaded blue tapestry carpet to match the blue beaded curtains. The room is furnished with a glazed ceramic parlor stove,wooden table with gilt decorations,blue silk upholstered sofa and chairs,pier mirror,six paintings including four hand-painted watercolors in gilt frames,very fine Limoges tea service,metal clock,metal-base parlor lamp and other statuary,vases,and flowers. Seven bisque dolls in antique costumes (one man with notable mutton chop sideburns) live in the house,along with their four bisque or porcelain dogs. Excellent condition. Germany,circa 1890,a lively scene of a prosperous late Victorian family,the house itself have luxurious architectural details.

The open-front two-story wooden house has original grey painted finish to simulate stone,with decorative grey and cream speckled columns to suggest marble,and artfully-painted trellises,flowers and vines on the exterior. The painting extends around the entire house. There are two side balconies on the second floor with fancy- balustrade railings,and doors opening to the interior with pebbled glass windows. Four interior rooms highlighted by one large room on the second floor have early wall and rare ceiling papers,and the floors are all paper-lithographed to simulate parquet. The rooms all have metal cornices with silk or lace curtains. The grand room on the second floor has a superb chandelier of crystal and ruby with silver filigree frame,and is furnished with beaded carpet and a late-19th century parlor set upholstered in red silk,comprising sofa and six chairs. There is a marble top table,an unusual wooden table with marble whale-shaped feet,marble bowl with birds at the sides,marble-shelf pier mirror,dessert buffet,and three carved-ivory-framed early engravings,along with various decorative accessories and a porcelain tea service. Two early German porcelain dollhouse dolls in antique costumes live in the room. The lower floor has three rooms. On the left is a servantÞs kitchen room with simple wooden chairs and table. The middle room is highlighted by a domed-recess in the ceiling,and features a woven tapestry carpet,marble-top table and stand and a trio of early Waltershausen cabinets with faux-marble painted-wood columns at the front. Porcelain vases and accessories,a faux-marble bust,and various framed engravings accent the room. On the right is the childrenÞs nursery with tin swing,fine tin miniature carriage in original cream with blue painted trim,tin wash stand,and soft metal chandelier and plant stand; there is a blue beaded carpet and a porcelain baby seated on a chamber pot. Excellent condition. Germany,a rare and superb house attributed to F & M Sturm of Nuremberg,circa 1880,of which few examples are known to exist.

Grand-sized wooden framed doll rooms are highlighted by a back corner cupola room with (detachable) wooden shingled tower with widow's walk with fancy balustrade,and high steeple. The exterior of the house has original grey paint and some decorative stone work. Each of the windows in the house is actually leaded in the Renaissance style,the three windows in the cupola room with arched tops and hinging-open double windows below; and the window panels in the rooms are each three sectioned,heavily leaded,and hinge open. The floor in the cupola and in the smaller room are beautifully laid with wooden flooring in a parquet herringbone,with star design in the center of the cupola floor. The grand room has plain wooden flooring with woven carpet. The delightfully-rounded cupola is slightly raised with one-step entry and a shapely balustrade. There is an elaborately paneled wooden door between the rooms,and original cornices on the windows and doors which support velvet draperies. The wallpaper is old,and the there is a fine pressed card-paper wainscoting and chair rail in the grand room. There are three silver or gilded metal chandeliers. The house rests upon its own original four shapely legs (which are detachable). The house has its original furnishings. Of significance,dining room and bedroom sets are of luxury quality in unusual designs. The dining set is of heavily carved oak with original rare leather upholstery on the sofa and chairs. The sofa is ornamented with gilded metal lionÞs head and tiny brass studs,and the six dining chairs have unusual leg designs. There is a matching buffet,table and dessert buffet,and the table is generously laden with early pewter service. The eight-piece bedroom ensemble of richly- grained oak inlaid with stained-red wood panels comprises two fitted beds,two nightstands,armoire,dressing table,marble top dresser,and another small cabinet. The house is well-peopled,and there are various accessories and paintings; of special note an ornate silver and gilded pineapple-shaped urn. Excellent condition overall,some faux-stones missing from exterior. Probably German,late-19th century. A silvered centerpiece suspends from the draperies with 1893 date is also included. The house was previously exhibited in the Puppenstuben Museum of Landsberg Toy Museum near Munich,and is exceptional in its unique features,as well as having its original furnishings.

Two wooden framed rooms with simple pilaster fronts are painted original cream and grey,and feature an unusually shaped sitting room with angled sides,a window in one of these angles. The bedroom has a separate dressing room area that extends as a hidden recessbehind the sitting room angle,and there is a set-back area for the bed. There is old wallpaper and paper lithographed floors to simulate parquet flooring. The sitting room is furnished with a painted green ensemble comprising sofa,bookcase,table,2 chairs,pedestal,fernery and large hanging clock with pendulum. Two hanging deer heads (of soft metal or card stock) hang on the walls along with a walnut gun rack and matching newspaper holder. There are gilded metal and silver medallion plates,5 dogs (3 are Vienna bronze),pewter service,various other accessories and prints,and two men in hunting garb and a dollhouse lady. The bedroom highly contrasts with the masculine atmosphere of the sitting room. It is furnished with a dainty red-stained bedroom set with gilt-metal wreath designs comprising a table,bed,2 chests,and a night stand,along with soft metal accessories including dressing table,screen,sewing basket,flower stand and dangling bead chandelier. There are five lady or children miniature dolls and a poodle,along with accessories and prints. Very good/excellent condition. Germany,circa 1910,a charming and active vignette with interesting architecture and themes.

The two room wooden doll house setting has original natural wood finish with richly-carved columns and pilasters,and a set-back raised alcove with five-angled walls,spindled balustrade,and three stairs. There is wooden tongue-in-groove style wainscoting and chair rail all around the parlor and alcove,and a matching double-paneled door. Wooden cornices top each window and door,and there are wooden tie-back curtain knobs. Three tri-panel windows feature hinged lower windows and silver window knobs. The original lithographed paper simulating parquet is repeated in each room,and the house has old wallpapers and borders,and matching old silk drapes. The house has its original furnishings. The dining room features a highly-carved golden oak set including green-velvet upholstered settee and four chairs,table,buffet,desk,unusual seven-sided pedestal dining table,and hanging clock. In addition there is a 3-arm ormolu chandelier,ormolu birdcage and mirror,soft metal parlor stove,porcelain gilt tea service,other accessories and prints,woven carpet,and bisque dollhouse Grandma and Grandpa. The bedroom set,also of highly-carved golden oak includes an exceptional armoire,fitted bed,two night-stands,pier mirror,and two chairs. There is also a carved walnut easel with walnut-framed print of girl playing with dolls,lamp with matching beaded ceiling light,copper bed warmer,other accessories,and a bisque dollhouse lady. Excellent condition. Germany,circa 1890,probably August Herrmann,with original furnishings and decorations. A nearly identical room from the original Herrmann catalog is shown in CieslikÞs Lexikon der Puppenstuben und Puppenhauser,page 83. The house was previously exhibited at the well-known Puppenstuben Museum of Landsberg Toy and Doll Museum near Munich.
