Miriam's Childhood Dolls Along with Their Story

Miriam's Childhood Dolls Along with Their Story

Lot #441

7" (18 cm.) -28". Comprising thirteen bisque and porcelain dolls from various German and French makers from the early 1900s, along with an original framed sepia photograph of Miriam surrounded by part of her doll collection including some of the dolls included in this group. The dolls are in excellent condition. Here is their story, as accounted by Colin Reinhard whose family has preserved the collection and their story until this time. "My great grandmother, Cora Persons, was the youngest of three girls. As was customary in the 1870s and 1880s, the youngest often received the least. This included toys and games. When her only daughter, Miriam, was born in 1906, Cora lavished her with dolls of all kinds. Purchased from local businesses in Springfield, Massachusetts, Miriam's collection grew in time. The picture shows Miriam with her collection, holding class. It's no surprise that Miriam went on to attend the Teachers College of Columbia University and taught for many years in Massachusetts and New York. In 1945, Miriam had a daughter of her own, Janice, who continued to bring life into the dolls at her childhood home on Long Island. I also have fond memories of pulling the dolls in a wagon around our house and teaching them to read. They continued to work their magic as I also became a teacher. As the collection finds a new home, we sincerely hope they will bring the buyer as much joy as they did to four generations of our family".
