30" (76 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, delicate complexion, brilliant cobalt blue enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, shapely wooden body with defined derriere and waist, dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees, with original kid-over-wood at the knee jointing, bisque lower arms and well-shaped hands. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Au Paradis des Enfants (original Paris label on torso). Comments: French, circa 1865, the doll was discovered with her sister poupee in the attic of a French chateau near Dijon, France, preserved with her trousseaux and accessories. Both poupees have remained in the original family until this time; this particular doll was acquired from the prestigious Parisian toy store of Au Paradis des Enfants. Value Points: extremely rare grand size of the wooden fully-articulated body, with original superb bisque portrait head, original wig, original boutique label, and owning an extensive trousseau comprising five ensembles (one notable purple skirt with matching purple bonnet, ivory satin gown with added pleated cap, brown silk gown with fur wrap, one black silk ensemble with outstanding fur wrap having beaded and lace trim), along with rose silk slippers, blue woven slippers, two pairs of shoes, various accessories, hat box, cotton tablier with handmade rick-rack and various undergarments.

28" (71 cm.) Bisque shoulder head with very plump face and delicate complexion, brilliant cobalt blue glass inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted lashes, delicately feathered brows, mauve blushed eye shadow, accented nostrils, closed mouth with shaded outlined lips, original blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French kid poupee body with shapely torso, gusset-jointing at hips, knees, elbows, stitched and separated fingers. Condition: generally excellent, fresh and sturdy original body. Comments: French, circa 1865, attributed to Blampoix. This poupee, along with following lot #200, have been recently discovered in the attic rooms of a chateau near Dijon, France in the Bourgogne region; both dolls were stored in an original old wooden trunk box along with their trousseaux and accessories. The trunk, which is included with this doll #199, has the trunk label of Baldomme, Bazar Central of Dijon, as well as a the handwritten note indicating its original owner, Madame Richard Guillemot (partially illegible). Value Points: an important trousseau doll, increasingly impossible to find in this original state of preservation, is enhanced by her beautiful face and fine condition. Her trousseau includes five gowns (shown here, one with very separate rare overlay open weave jacket, and one with separate embroidered lace wrap; one with matching bonnet) along with three additional bonnets, wooden hat box, early woven shoes, parasol, lambswool muff, lace shawl, gloves, white pique jacket, cream cashmere cape, and extensive undergarments.
