French Wooden Chateau Dollhouse, Elevator, Stained Glass Windows and Chapel Turret

French Wooden Chateau Dollhouse, Elevator, Stained Glass Windows and Chapel Turret

Lot #58

52" (132 cm.) l. 50"h. 45"d. (all measurements including turret). The uniquely-constructed wooden dollhouse features a mansard roof which hinges open at the top for access to the open attic and which has eight gabled windows. The main house is two-story with four large rooms at the front, and at the back four smaller rooms with two small enclosed porches that disguise small hidden rooms behind them; the rooms feature various details such as draped ceiling, marquetry or tiled flows and paneled interior doors. There is a removable elaborate front with a five-sided balcony on the second floor above a matching columned porch below, each with elaborately-carved railing; the balcony railing edged all around with a tin plant holder, and the porch with a blue and while tiled floor and four elegant columns that support the balcony. The house rests upon a wooden platform designed to appear as basement and with framed basement windows. The front of the house features double-hinged doors on both floors, fronted by railed porch or grillwork, and there are two large double-doors at the left side below wide demi-lune windows. At the back right of the house is a three story five-sided turret with pyramid roof; the turret hinges open to reveal a two story elevator with filigree brass doors and hand-wind mechanism from exterior handle; 15 standing glass windows, each different, line the walls of the turret, and at the third floor is a chapel whose vaulted ceiling has oil-painted designs; a carved wooden altar is at the back wall. Various original furnishings are included. The exterior and much of the interior has original finishes, and is designed in five detachable sections for shipping. French, mid-19th century.
